The Uncomfortable Truth
After running thousands of AVI scans, we've found that the median first-time score is 14 out of 100.
That's not a rounding error. The majority of brands, including well-funded, well-known ones, are functionally invisible to AI search engines.
Here's why.
Reason 1: Your Brand Name is Ambiguous
If your company name is a common word, a shared name with other businesses, or an acronym with multiple meanings, AI engines don't know which "you" to discuss.
Fix: Add domain context everywhere. Publish content that consistently pairs your brand name with your specific category: "Acme: the B2B procurement platform" not just "Acme."
Reason 2: Your Content Doesn't Answer Questions Directly
AI engines pull answers from content that directly, specifically answers a question. Blog posts with titles like "Our Journey to Series B" or "Introducing Feature X" are not what gets cited.
Fix: Restructure your content strategy around the specific questions your buyers ask AI engines. Use those exact questions as content titles and H2s.
Reason 3: You're Not in the Training Data Sources AI Trusts
Models weight content from established publications, industry associations, and highly-linked sites more than content from your own domain.
Fix: Pursue earned media. Get featured in industry publications. Speak at conferences. Publish research that others cite.
Reason 4: Your Competitors Have More Entity Clarity
If your competitor has a Wikipedia page, a Crunchbase profile, extensive LinkedIn presence, and coverage in TechCrunch, and you don't, the model defaults to them.
Fix: Build your brand's digital footprint. Create and maintain profiles on every major professional and business platform. Publish company information consistently across all of them.
Reason 5: You Haven't Published Comparison Content
"[Brand A] vs [Brand B]" queries are among the highest-intent questions buyers ask AI engines. If you don't have comparison pages, you're ceding that territory to whoever does.
Fix: Write honest, specific comparison pages for your top 5 competitors. Lead with your genuine strengths.
