The AI Visibility Index: A New Metric for the Age of AI Search

Rankings and traffic don't capture AI visibility. We built the AVI score to give marketers a single, actionable number that reflects how AI engines perceive their brand.

Why Existing Metrics Fall Short

Marketing teams are buried in metrics: impressions, CTR, domain authority, keyword rankings, traffic. None of them tell you whether ChatGPT recommends your brand when someone asks about your category.

We built the AI Visibility Index (AVI) to fill that gap.

How AVI is Calculated

The AVI is a composite 0-100 score built from four signals:

Mention Rate (40%) measures what percentage of relevant queries include your brand. It's quality-weighted, so a detailed mention counts more than a passing name-drop.

Sentiment (30%) looks at the tone when AI engines mention your brand. Positive framing drives recommendation intent.

Citation Rate (20%) tracks whether your website gets cited as a source. Citations indicate the model views your content as authoritative.

Position Score (10%) measures where in the response your brand appears. First-mentioned brands get the recommendation click.

How to Move Your Score

The fastest AVI improvements come from:

  • Publishing brand-specific content that directly answers questions AI engines receive about your category
  • Earning third-party mentions in authoritative sources your AI engines are trained on
  • Correcting negative framing by publishing case studies and success stories that reshape model associations

Track your AVI monthly. A 10-point improvement typically represents a meaningful increase in AI-driven inbound inquiries.
